This will be a non-hosted event tonight. I am not feeling well so I will not be there but I hope you still attend and have a great time.

Experience the poetry and pizzazz of Jazz ABZ by Paul Rogers and Wynton Marsalis. Enjoy the Jacksonville Symphony Instrument Zoo, live music and studio activities based on graphic illustration and hot jazz tempos.

Illustrator Paul Rogers will conduct a gallery walk-and-talk tour of his works and sign copies of the book Jazz ABZ.

FREE admission

Jazz ABZ: An A to Z Collection of Jazz Portraits by Paul Rogers. The energy found in this unique combination of art, poetry, history and music will pulse through the galleries and gardens with programs that celebrate the fusion of the arts. I invite you to attend the community opening on Tuesday evening, January 26 from 4 to 9 p.m. for an event filled with live Jazz, gallery talks and a book signing with the artist Paul Rogers, art projects, tours, shopping, friendship and fun.

Artist Paul Rogers teamed with legendary jazz musician Wynton Marsalis to create the book Jazz ABZ, which highlights jazz greats from A (Louis Armstrong) to Z (Dizzy Gillespie) through art and poetry.

Each portrait and poem is evocative of the particular musician’s sound, and each work of art alludes to song titles, artifacts, and other markers of the time, including artistic references to well-known artists who were particularly inspired by jazz music.

This exhibit will also include selected poems by Wynton Marsalis and is a must-see for jazz fans and poets of all ages.

This is also a great time to visit the gardens, with the camellias in bloom, the river sparkling under a winter sun and colorful beds filled with petunias, pansies and snapdragons.

The music was great and the art was superior. I enjoyed the presentation by Mr. Rogers and the stories about how he created his bautiful pieces of art.

The works of Paul Rogers were extraordinary. His ideas and artifacts on each jazz musician were insightful. To think he had these paintings just sitting around in a drawer and that they've never been displayed in a gallery before. Great job for the Cummer Museum for being the first to display these works but I'll bet they won't be the last.
    •  The exhibition was interesting and there was some good jazz music. Could only find 2 people from the meetup group. Think there should have been a central meeting place so people could find each other. The good news is that I did meet up with someone I had been hoping to see again and had a chance to reconnect and chat and that was a good thing.
