One of our Members Leslie would like to invite us to come to a kickoff meeting for Relay for Life to hear what it is all about.

Here is what Leslie said:

I volunteer at the American Cancer Society. I became involved after my Step-Dad was diagnosed with cancer. He has since passed away, but I continue to volunteer, to honor him and for all the other millions of people who are affected by this horrible disease…. plus it is fun.
My passion is for the “Relay for Life”. “Relay is a fun, overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs for our local American Cancer Society. During the event, teams of people gather at schools or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.”
My/Our Relay “The Southside Relay” is an 18 hour event starting on Saturday April 24, at noon & will be at the Fire Station Park on Beach Blvd by Sams. There is a DJ the whole time & it is kind of a festival/fair type thing. Each team has a tent sent up & they sell something.. food, jewelry, crafts, etc.. Best Buy is a corp sponsor, so last year they had a booth set up & people were playing video games all day/night.
Anyway, the kick-off event is on Thursday, January 21, 6:30-7:45, at the Southside Hampton Inn and it is just a get together to explain what Relay is, where the money goes, etc.
